A MAJOR £2.6m scheme is in the pipeline to ease congestion at the Dodworth Road crossroads dubbed a ‘nightmare’ junction for locals and commuters alike.

The improvement scheme is one of three additional projects added to the council’s 2017-2020 capital investment programme - spending earmarked for one-off schemes - which senior councillors will be asked to approve on Wednesday.

Detailed plans are yet to be drawn for the crossroads scheme but council papers state works will involve ‘junction improvements’ to better traffic flows at the junction of Dodworth Road and Broadway.

Council leader Sir Steve Houghton said the money is being set aside so officers can start work to draw up proposals for the mooted scheme. It is not known when it will start or how long it is expected to take.
