PLANS to demolish two properties which were damaged following a devastating fire on the hottest day ever recorded have been submitted to the council.

The fire, on Woodland Drive, Kingstone, began at 3.40pm on July 19 last year and destroyed four homes, leaving two more badly damaged.

Firefighters flocked to the scene on the day to attempt to contain the blaze, whilst concerned neighbours tried their best to extinguish the fire in 40C heat.

But after immense work from all involved, a number of properties were burnt to the ground in a scene of sheer devastation.

Demolition work to remove the homes was completed last August, and the council has submitted another application to remove two properties.

The application confirms that the semi-detached properties were damaged during last year’s blaze, though the future development of the site is ‘unknown at this stage’.
