Barnsley were denied victory at Lincoln City with a late equaliser ensuring they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at the LNER Stadium.

Barry Cotter and John McAtee both got their names on the scoresheet in the second-half to cancel out Danny Mandroiu's successfully-converted penalty early on, but TJ Eyoma's leveller in the 88th minute ensured the spoils were shared.

Four changes were made from Barnsley's last league outing – a 3-0 defeat away at Derby.

Luca Connell was arguably the most notable name in the starting line-up, making his first league appearance of the season as he continues his comeback from a debilitating illness. Key man Devante Cole also returned from international duty with Jamaica to start.

The Reds made a poor start, though, and found themselves behind in the fifth minute, when Mandroiu sent Ben Killip the wrong way from the penalty spot after captain Jordan Williams' clumsy challenge brought down Jack Burroughs in the area.

Lincoln came close to doubling their lead in the 18th minute as striker Jovon Makama capitalised on Mael de Gevigney's mistimed clearance, but Killip saved the one-on-one well with his feet.

The Reds started to grow into the game thereafter and registered their first shot on target in the 28th minute, with Nicky Cadden's half volley from just outside the area forcing a decent save out of Lukas Jensen.

Cadden's low, hard cross 10 minutes later was turned behind as the pressure continued to build, but Neill Collins' men went in at half-time trailing 1-0.

Barnsley started the second-half brightly and came close to an equaliser in the 48th minute, when McAtee's header in the box was cleared away close to the goal line.

Another chance came and went in the 66th minute as Herbie Kane's deep delivery fell to Callum Styles, who volleyed into the body of Jensen.

The growing pressure finally told two minutes later as Cotter met McAtee's cross at the back post and slotted the ball home to make it two goals in as many games for him.

Confidence was now brimming through the Reds and they took the lead in the 72nd minute, with McAtee scoring from close range from Williams' cross.

They thought they'd done enough to secure all three points, but Eyoma struck in the 88th minute after Mandroiu's corner caused mayhem in the Barnsley area.

Prior to the match, a minute's applause was held for Barnsley fan Anton Roberts, who lost his life shortly after last season's equivalent fixture in April.

Anton, who was in his 60s, fell ill on a coach following the Reds' goalless draw.
