FIRST-TIME buyers in Barnsley spent £36,900 more on their property in December than they did five years ago, new figures have revealed.
By comparison, former owner-occupiers paid £182,900 on average in December - 26.6 per cent more than first-time buyers who spent an average of £144,500.
Owners of terraced houses saw the biggest fall in property prices in Barnsley in December - they dropped 3.9 per cent in price, to £126,008 on average.
Over the last year, prices dropped by 2.7 per cent.
