Robbie Cundy has impressed since his return to training and could still play a part in Barnsley’s promotion run-in.

The centre-back has missed almost a year with glute and hip issues.

He was named in the starting line-up for Friday’s under 21s game but it was called off.

Head coach Neill Collins told the Chronicle: “It’s absolutely great to see Robbie back in training. It’s been a really tough eight or nine months for him. He’s been looking really good in training.

“Obviously we need to get him three or four games. It was a shame that game was cancelled but we’re looking to potentially play a friendly this week.

“The best case scenario is he comes through those games and can be available for us.”

Midfielder Josh Benson was on the bench on Saturday after four months out. He too could feature for the under 21s.

Collins said: “Josh needs some minutes. He was on the bench because Luca had been ill.

“He hasn’t played loads of football. But he’s desperate to play and hopefully he can be an important player for us.”

John McAtee will miss Tuesday’s game with Bolton but Nicky Cadden is expected to return after illness.
