POLICE flooded Barnsley for an action day on Wednesday which resulted in 15 arrests.

Operation Duxford - which involves officers from across South Yorkshire - returned and focused on drugs, speeding, antisocial behaviour and illegal vehicles.

More than 200 cannabis plants and four large bags of cocaine were found, while an unlicensed waste carrier had his van seized.

The force also used its heat-detecting drone to carry out surveillance on suspected cannabis growers at three addresses.

A police spokesperson said: “A total of 180 staff - including teams from Barnsley Council - descended on the town for the first dedicated operation in 2024.

“Officers from across the force executed warrants and gave early wake-up calls to those believed to be involved in criminality and drug supply.

“We are stronger with our communities - if you believe people or properties being involved in drug supply, speak to us.

“Residents’ intelligence assists us in executing warrants and disrupting organised crime groups and supply chains.”
