BARNSLEY Town stunned Premier League high-flyers Jubilee Sports to reach the County Senior League Cup semi-finals.

Jubilee are second in the top flight and Town top of Division Two with ambitions to become one of the top teams in Barnsley having already secured promotion in their first ever season.

Manager Robbie Gainey said: “It was brilliant. It wasn’t unexpected for us but probably for everyone else.

“Jubilee are long-established with a great set-up. For us to go there and win is huge in our first season.

“We think they were the toughest team left in the cup so it has to give us confidence going into the next rounds. To get to the final at the New York Stadium would be a massive achievement.”

Rhys Wilson and Fabian Tykfer put Town 2-0 up after 15 minutes then, after the hosts replied, Wilson secured the win late on. Gainey said: “All of the subs and coaches ran onto the pitch when we scored the third.

“We took a coachload of fans and to hear them singing ‘we’re all town aren’t we?’ just a stone’s throw from Hillsborough was funny.

“We had the boxer Callum Simpson singing with us in the changing rooms afterwards because his brother Bradley plays for us.”

Dodworth MW are also in the last four after a 6-1 home win over SESKU.

Penistone Church reserves went 11 points clear at the top of the Premier Division with a 2-0 win at Wombwell Main.

Silkstone United drew 2-2 at home to Sheffield Union in Division One.
