PLANS are to be submitted for a proposed £80 million renewable energy park on the former Houghton Main Colliery.
Developers Peel Environmental held a public consultation earlier this year and have adjusted its plans before submission.
It will be in camouflage colours and have screening in an attempt to minimise the visual impact of the park.
Development manager Jane Gaston said: "The public consultation provided us with some really useful input from the local community which has helped to shape our application.
"In particular we have looked carefully at the design of the proposals taking on board local views that the buildings should blend into the landscape.
"We have also had a number of conversations about a potential community benefit scheme which we are currently developing – in addition to the 230 new jobs that would be created during construction and operation.
"We have been pleased to see a number of local people support the proposals, including local MP Michael Dugher, and we hope to provide a lasting legacy for the local area by bringing energy generation back to Houghton Main."
Should plans be accepted, Tamar Energy will run the park alongside Northern Bio Power and will use materials such as waste wood and leftover food to generate up to 23MW of renewable electricity which is enough to power around 55,000 homes.
A decision on the application is expected to be made in the autumn.
