Barnsley teenager George Friend is entitled to spend at least one night on the tiles in celebration.

That's because the 19-year-old, who specialises in painting rooftop scenes, has been selected as the youngest artist to exhibit his work at this year's Art in the Gardens - the biggest outdoor art and crafts show in the north.

George, of Daleswood Avenue, Pogmoor, who is currently studying to be a primary school teacher in Scarborough having gained an A Level in art at Penistone Grammar, explained he will be entering five watercolours.

"The pictures include two roof top scenes of Rome, one of Prague and one each from Whitby and Scarborough."

Now in its 11th year, Art in the Gardens filled the Botanical Gardens in Clarkehouse Road, with paintings, sculpture, demonstrations, stalls and entertainment over the weekend.
