A SPECIALIST round-the-clock air ambulance which transports some of the sickest children and babies has become one of only two in the UK to be recognised for its excellent quality and safety.
Embrace, which is based at Capitol Park, Dodworth, is also one in six outside of America to receive certification from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).
CAMTS is a collective of non-profit organisations within the air medical industry that accredits air medical transport services worldwide.A three-day site survey was carried out at Embrace headquarters and the Commission spent more than 200 hours scrutinising the service before reaching its verdict.
Dr Steve Hancock, a critical care consultant with Embrace, said: "The team has been working extremely hard for the past two-and-a-half years to demonstrate that we meet the rigorous requirements that CAMTS accreditation demands.
"Only 65 per cent of services meet the standards at the first attempt so everyone on the team, from our call handlers to our nurses and consultants, is absolutely delighted to have achieved this goal."
Embrace, which is fully accredited for ground, fixed wing and rotor wing critical care transport, will now feature on an exclusive list of services approved by CAMTS worldwide.
