YORKSHIRE Ambulance Service workers are being balloted for strike action in a long-running dispute over changes to shift patterns.
Member of union Unite claim the changes could mean working ten hours without a meal break.
The union has said that it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed as a result of staff exhaustion.
The new ballot is being held to renew the mandate for strike action after Unite claimed the management of Yorkshire Ambulance Service refused to negotiate.
It said 'detrimental' working conditions will mean emergency care assistants, who have only six weeks training, will take on more responsibilities such as being the first to respond to an emergency call.
The ballot of the 378 Unite members will close on Wednesday.
