ANGER erupted at a planning meeting as controversial plans for 76 new homes on Pilley farmland were approved.

Barnsley Council planning board granted outline permission for up to 35 homes off Pilley Green/Lidgett Lane and up to 41 homes off New Road and Lidgett Lane.

Residents were "frustrated and disappointed" by the decision. They had sent 186 letters of objection.

Planners heard developer and applicant Jaguar Estates/Wortley Construction would contribute £290,000 to the community. This included £100,000 for an upgrade of Tankersley St Peter's primary school and £40,000 on travel passes to encourage new residents to use public transport.
