A FAMILY whose new £300,000 home was badly damaged in an arson attack say they have been overwhelmed by the support they have received since.

Shaun Moreby, 47, wife Debbie, and their two children had been due to move into the self-build new house on High Street, Thurnscoe, before the attack last Monday. It wasn't insured because self-build properties are difficult to insure during construction.

Copper and tools were stolen from the house and garage before it was set on fire causing damage costing an estimated £40,000 to fix.

The family had agreed to sell its current home on Peartree Avenue days before the break-in and now face being homeless until the building work, including replacing the roof on their new home, is redone.

But local people and friends turned up over the weekend to try and help get the building work back on track.

Police officers are appealing for anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident number 118 of July 14 2014. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
