BARNSLEY artist Ashley Jackson has been caught up in a fake art scandal after a forger was caught selling copies of his paintings on eBay.

The painter, who specialises in watercolour landscapes of the Yorkshire Moors, found out that imitations of his work were being offered for sale on the auction site.

Huddersfield CID and Warwickshire Police launched a joint investigation and arrested a former printer in Rugby, Warwickshire. He was given a caution for forging the Ashley Jackson paintings.

But now further investigations by national newspapers and the police have revealed that the man living in a council flat in the Midlands, has continued to sell fake paintings on the internet site.

He has been churning out as many as three fake paintings a week claiming they were by Ashley, LS Lowry and Adrian Heath among others.

The investigation continues.
