AN ATHLETE is going ahead with his plans to compete in this weekend's British Transplant Games - despite the sudden death of his brother who was just 49.

Glen Taylor, 48 - a finalist in last year's Proud of Barnsley awards - set off today (Thursday) from his home in Beeston Square to take part in the games in Bolton, Lancashire, despite being shocked by the death of his brother Carl.

A former jockey himself, Glen was given six months to live in 2006 after being diagnosed with diabetes in his 20s. He received a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2007, his donor was an 18-year-old girl who had been killed in a car accident.
