A BARNSLEY police officer who apprehended a man brandishing a shotgun has been given a bravery award.
Sgt Chris Foster received reports of a man attacking another man with a baseball bat.
When the attacker saw Sgt Foster, he pointed what appeared to be a double barrelled shot gun at him.
Sgt Foster twice sprayed the attacker with CS gas and restrained him until back up arrived.
He was awarded for his bravery at the Police and Partners Together awards - the first to be organised by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Shaun Wright.
Barnsley scooped seven awards in total - with PC Ryan Griffiths being named police officer of the year for his reputation of leading from the front.
