PIN-UP artist Fiona Stephenson is about to go global after one of her paintings was chosen for the front cover of a new comic book.

Her oil painting of a 1950s' style pin-up girl will feature on 'Bodies' created by Vertigo, which is part of one of the largest and most popular comic book makers in the world - DC Comics.

DC is famed for well-known characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash.

Fiona's artwork features on the first issue of the new 'Bodies' miniseries, which starts in July, as new eight-issue comic follows a centuries-spanning murder mystery.

It is written by Si Spencer (Judge Dredd, Vinyl Underground, Hellblazer), and features artists Phil Winslade, Tula Lotay, Meghan Hetrick and another Barnsley artist, Fiona's partner and regular DC artist, Dean Ormston.

Fiona, 49, of Park Grove, Barnsley, said: "I have worked for DC before and normally done colour work which is where you are colouring other people's artwork.

"The team knows me and knows I have moved in to painting pin-ups.

"As part of the story is set in the 1940s that fits in with the paintings I do.

"First of all I had to submit lots of sketches for the editor to approve and we talked about colours and the actual painting took about a month to do.

"I'm really happy with it. Painting for a living is such a lovely job to have and that period of time, the 1940s and 1950s, is really popular.

"A while ago it was thought it was going to be a fad but it seems to be lasting."
