The Button Mill, Worsbrough, flooded at about 6.30pm after run off from the car park, on higher ground, came into the pub.
Rainwater came in through the ceiling and washed into the bar on one side of the pub.
Landlord Rob Wootton, 28, said it was like a scene from the Titanic.
"When the rain came down it came down hard. It washed stuff in the gutter and blocked it," he said.
"We still had a couple of people coming into eat. It was like scene from the Titanic, people were sitting at their tables eating while we were running about.
"We had a couple of our regulars who were helping us to roll back the carpets and clean up which was really nice.
"We're still open for business, we're not going to let a bit of water stop us."
Asda and the Co-op supermarkets on Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe, were closed on Thursday evening.
"We've had a bit of a flooding incident with water running down the car park," said Asda duty manager, Greg Ayston.
"We've had done a deep clean and had the drainage guys in and are back in business."
Fire-fighters received calls from worried residents in Thurnscoe and Bolton.
Dodworth St John's Primary School issued a thank you statement yesterday after locals came to help when they put out an emergency call for aid.
Flood alerts have been issued for the rivers Don and Dearne. The Met Office has issued an amber warning which instructs people to 'be prepared.'
He said: "Even in this situation the council's resources are limited and the response teams will prioritise attendance to the most needy locations, therefore residents must appreciate it may be several hours before there is any response to what starts of as a non-urgent issue."
