NOVELIST Milly Johnson was left 'completely overwhelmed' after winning an award for her romantic comedy, It's Raining Men.
She was presented with a crystal trophy by ballerina and Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell after winning in the romantic comedy novel at the Romantic Novel of the Year awards in London.
She said: "I really didn't think I'd win. I've won other smaller awards before but this is like winning an Oscar in our industry.
"I've had some really lovely messages from Barnsley people and it's nice to bring it home for Barnsley.
"I didn't even write a speech because I didn't think I had a chance."
Milly beat off stiff competition from respected authors including Margaret James, Ali McNamara, Fiona Walker and last year's winner, Jenny Colgan, who this year had two books in contention for the prize.
The shortlist was judged by a respected and experienced panel of five independent industry professionals who said they had enjoyed the quirky magical element and the brave and ambitious plot line.
