IT WAS a funeral procession with a difference for a much-loved Wath man.
Dave Shaw, 55, from Charles Road, Wath, died on December 4 of lung disease COPD.
He was a lifelong motorbike enthusiast who loved his 125cc bikes, but never had the chance to get his full licence.
Daughter Emma Hague knew he would have wanted to go out ‘looking as cool as possible’, so used her position as founder of the South Yorkshire Lady Bikers to rally plenty of people to her cause.
Approximately 30 bikers joined Dave’s funeral procession from the Marquis pub, Upper Haugh, to Ardsley Crematorium last Thursday.
Emma said: “He is the person who made me who I am today. He always had 125cc bikes which I thought was awesome and aspired to be like him. We did a lot together from travelling to the seaside and other trips, and from that I created South Yorkshire Lady Bikers.
“He died due to his lifelong smoking habit. Last year he was put in intensive care because his lungs failed and I didn’t think he would survive. When he did, he suffered psychosis and for a while didn’t even know who I was. We found out he had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) as well as other illnesses related to his past in the mining industry.
“A lot of people don’t know what COPD is, but I urge them to find out and be aware of it.”
