ACTOR and comedian Bobby Knutt joined fundraisers to hand over a cheque for more than £1,000 following two years of effort by Elsecar members of the Buffs.

Members of the Major Jack Clarke Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes meet at the Fitzwilliam Arms, Elsecar, and sold raffle tickets and organised other events to raise the £1,063 needed to help the West Bank House Association Luncheon Club, which needed a hostess trolley to help serve hot meals.

Members organised a social evening on Saturday and Bobby, who lives in Elsecar, agreed to attend for the presentation which was made to Mary Porter, from the Hoyland-based association.

Lodge secretary Ian Clarke said: "The lodge had heard the luncheon club was in need of assistance to purchase a hostess trolley to serve hot food, so all members rallied round in selling raffle tickets and other events to raise money."

Those involved in the fundraising work included Chris Hough, Bob Mason, Jonathan Edgar, Mike Hunt, Woz Crew, Adam Parkin, Steve Challoner, Michael Cobb, Tom Corns and Ian Clarke.

The lodge is also appealing for new members. The society is open to men aged 18 and over and supports charitable causes. They meet every Sunday at the pub, from 7pm. There is also an opportunity for women to set up a Ladies Glades section and the lodge would assist with that.
