A PET snake had to be rescued by firefighters after escaping from its tank and becoming trapped in the walls of a family home.

The four foot corn snake, called Cuddles, had slithered under the floorboards and into the wall cavities at the property in Arundel View, Jump.

A crew from Tankersley had to remove bricks from the outside of the property to free it.

A spokesman for the fire service said the family had recently moved in and Cuddles was able to get to the floorboards because there weren't any carpets down.

Cuddles was not injured.
