BURGLARS stripped the beading from a window to break into a working men’s club.

The incident happened at East Dene WMC, on Doncaster Road, at 5.20am on Thursday.

Secretary Steve Dowle said the culprits stripped the beading from the outside of one of the club’s double glazed windows in order to remove the external pane of glass before smashing the internal pane to get inside.

Steve said fortunately, they were disturbed before they could take anything.

He said: “They got in the club but when they got to the serving hatch near the bar it’s triggered the alarm and that’s deterred them. The steward has come down and they’ve scarpered.”

The club has been made secure with a new doubled glazed window.

Steve said other pubs and premises in the area have been targeted and police are investigating. He added: “We have been told the same method has been used.”
