A DEARNE author put pen to paper to raise cash for the charity which saved her friend’s life.

Jessica Hempshall, 20, from Oak Road, Wath, wrote All You Need Is Blood to fundraise for charity Cure Leukaemia.

The charity saved her friend Fiona Codd’s life and Jessica’s book has so far raised more than £800 for the cause.

It saw her receive a special recognition award at the Cure Leukaemia Champions Awards last year for her efforts.

And now she has been nominated for a Young Champions award for her efforts.

In addition to putting pen to paper, Jessica has also had her hair cut twice to raise cash and donate to the Little Princess Trust, the Teenage Cancer Trust and Cure Leukaemia.

Jessica said: “I was absolutely honoured when I heard that I'd been nominated for a Young Champions award.

“Cure Leukaemia is a cause that means a lot to me - and has been my drive to donate my hair in 2016 for the second time, write All You Need Is Blood in 2017, and undertake my current A Vlog A Day challenge throughout this year.

“Fundraising and supporting this charity has become a huge part of my life. In fact, I'd say it has become my life in a way. I will always continue to support them, because I've met the patients the money raised is helping, and I can see the difference that it makes.

“I never expected to be nominated for an award for helping other people. I do all that I do because I know how much it can help someone - I never expected to be recognised for it.”

Mum Angela said: “We are so proud of all of her achievements and couldn't wish for a better daughter.”
