PUPILS at Barnsley Academy have reported feeling sick and developing a rash following a chemical incident.

Police, ambulance staff and fire crews are dealing with the incident at the school on Farm Road, Kendray.

Parents have now gathered at the school gates, though the Chronicle understands the parents of children who have been affected have been informed.

Some parents have made their way past police officers up to the school, and some pupils are now being allowed to leave.

A statement posted on the school website earlier said: “Due to the presence of the fire brigade on the school site, investigating a possible incident we will need to keep pupils in school for the time being there is no cause for alarm as this is a precautionary reason and we will update you asap. All pupils are being well looked after and we are awaiting the fire brigade to give us the all clear.”

The Chronicle has a reporter and a photographer at the scene, check the website for updates.
