His father tormented the Reds over the years, but now Devante Cole will spend the next three months with Barnsley.
The 19-year-old signed on loan from Manchester City until January 5 on Tuesday and made an impressive debut as a substitute that night in the 2-2 draw with Coventry.
His dad Andy, an England international who has the second most Premier League goals of all time, was in the crowd in Northampton. Cole senior scored ten times in a run of six games against the Reds in the 90s including hat-tricks for Newcastle in a 6-0 win and for Manchester United when Danny Wilson's Barnsley were thrashed 7-0 in the top flight.
"If Devante gets half as many as his dad seemed to score against Barnsley, I'll happy," Wilson told the Chronicle.
"I spoke to Andy about Devante and I am delighted that they and Manchester City have trusted us to have him on loan. We're very fortunate to get him because, when players with his potential come along, everybody scrambles for them."
