A COLOURFUL fund-raising event that saw almost 600 runners splattered with powder paint is thought to have raised almost £15,000 for charity.

The Barnsley Hospital Charity's Rainbow Run - held in Locke Park last Sunday - saw the runners were greeted by 'rainbow warriors' who created clouds of colour for them to run through by hurling powder paint at their white T-shirts as they ran past.

Katie Cartwright, Barnsley Hospital Charity's fundraising manager, said the result was spectacular with people crossing the finish line painted every colour of the rainbow.

"We really couldn't be prouder of everyone that took part. The emphasis of this event was family fun, huge smiles and inclusivity for all.

"Our youngest participant was just eight-months-old and our eldest was 83.

"We had people running, walking dancing and skipping. We had mobility scooters and pushchairs taking part, it really was a joy to see."

The charity is counting up the total raised as many runners are still collecting their sponsorship money but so far it is believed to have raised about £15,000. The event will be held again next year.
