A RETIRED couple from Royston have together racked up more than 60 years of working for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Jenny Armitage, 57 met her husband, Des, 62 of Ainsdale Close, Royston, in her first year of working for the ambulance service.

Jenny said: "I worked there for 28 years, and Des did for 38 before he retired in January.

"We both worked our way up through the ranks until we got to AEMTs (advanced emergency medical technician) which means we were out responding to 999 calls."

Des said: "We both loved our jobs, and will definitely miss the people who we worked with, but I think we are both looking forward to being able to spend quality time together.

"We were both working long hours so it wasn't always possible to spend time together."

Jenny and Des will have been married for 25 years in September.

Jenny said: "We have a holiday home in Whitby so we will be looking to spend a bit of time up there.

"We've also booked a cruise for next year to Australia and New Zealand so we've got a lot to look forward to."
