Tom White, 25, was 15 minutes into a bike ride with John Trueman when the pair were struck from behind on the A635 between Barugh Green and Cawthorne.

His bike ricocheted into John’s before both were thrown into the road at about 6.10pm on September 17.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Tom, of Pennine Way, Pogmoor, suffered a fractured vertebrae, bruising to his lungs, kidneys and liver and needed stitches in his ankle.

“I was riding along talking to John, there was a loud bang and then I was on the floor getting myself up. I don’t remember flying through the air,” he said.

“I remember a lot of people putting coats on me. The air ambulance had been on its way back from Leeds and saw the commotion on the road and landed. They put a neck brace on me until the ambulance came.”
