A NEW bicycle shop and cafe will open today in Gateway Plaza.

Cyclomania will sell a range of bikes, and will be a training centre where people can get advice about cycling and nutrition from Nigel Mitchell, who has worked with Team Sky cyclists.

It is owned by James Cooper and his business partner Jason Pedley.

James said: “We’re trying to attract people from in and around Barnsley.

“Everyone who has been inside has said it is fantastic, we’ve turned it in to quite a special place.

“What we’re trying to do is get people to use a bike rather than drive, as it’s more cost effective and it’s healthier. Barnsley has got the Tour De Yorkshire and we’re trying to get more people cycling. There’s a good chance that if we can get a child cycling, then we can get a parent cycling.

“Everything we serve in our cafe is fresh, and we’re trying to cater for cyclists and the general public. There’s not a lot of harmony between people who drive cars and cyclists, and we want them to be able to sit down in the cafe and understand one another. Hopefully we can bring these people together.”

Riders will be able to get measured up correctly for their bike, and get their feet measured make sure they are in the correct position on the pedal.
