The father of tragic soldier Matthew Thornton will lead scores of hikers around the Barnsley boundary walk as part of his bid to raise £100,000 in his son's memory.

Territorial Army soldier Matthew, 28, was killed by an improvised Taliban bomb in Afghanistan in November last year.

He was buried in Darton churchyard and proud dad Mick Thornton, of Bridge Street, Darton, will be among those who will set off on the walk from his graveside on Thursday at 8am.

They will join the Barnsley boundary walk at Haigh and expect to take nearly four days to complete the 73-mile route.
