Barnsley manager Danny Wilson says it 'remains to be seen' whether he will be in charge of the club next season.
The Reds are bottom of the Championship having won twice in 13 games since club legend Wilson – who guided them to the top flight in 1997 – returned to the job. Barnsley refused to reveal the length of Wilson's contract when he was appointed in December but the manager – who had spoken of his desire to stay for a long time – suggested yesterday that he would certainly be in charge next season if the Reds stayed up although the issue is more unclear should they be relegated
When asked about his future, Wilson said: "It remains to be seen. Let's take this season first. I came in with the task of staying up this season which is enormous but achievable. There's not been much discussion about my future after that point. I hope that everything ends well and I am here in the Championship next year."
This time of year is when player contracts are usually discussed and Wilson suggested the club were making plans for survival and relegation. He said: "Both options are being looked at. I am trying to help as much as I can. Whether I am here or not next season I will put long-term plans in place because I try to be professional.
"If I am not here, whoever comes in will have things in place for them. Ben Mansford (chief executive) is doing a great job and he will be looking at both options. The owner (Patrick Cryne) too."
