A number of events across Barnsley have been cancelled because of heavy rain.

Royston village gala, which also included the Royston Dynamos FC football presentation, was supposed to be held on Sunday from 11am-5pm.

Following a visit to the park Coun Tim Cheetham raised concerns and Caroline Cromack, of Barnsley Council, said: "Royston Park is waterlogged already, and with another day of rain forecast, we're going to have to cancel it."

Coun Graham Kyte said even if the rain stopped, the park would become a mud bath.

Darfield Foulstone School's last sports day today has been postponed until Tuesday.

It will still take place on the Longbow playing fields and at the same times, between 9am and 2pm.

Today's summer fair at St Michael and All Angels Catholic Primary will still go ahead from 1.30pm but in the school hall.

The Darfield Upperwood Primary summer fair, which was due to take place today, has been postponed until Friday July 13, from 2.30pm.
