Barnsley under 21s conceded a last-minute goal as they were beaten 2-1 at home to Wigan Athletic on Monday afternoon.

It was the team's first game for eight weeks due to poor weather and they have still one just once all season. Wigan took the lead on 67 minutes from a goal-mouth scramble but Barnsley levelled five minutes later when Rhys Oates was fouled in the area and substitute Brad Abbott scored the penalty. Athletic won it in injury time with another close range finish.

The Reds adopted the same 3-5-2 formation the first team are currently using with Lee Collins, Rob Edwards and Brad Kilburn as the back three with Matty Steade and Sam Patterson either side.

John Rooney, Jake Scott and Jordan Clark were in midfield with Toni Silva and Oates up front.
