A COUPLE who first met in the Dards pub, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last week.

Cliff and Brenda Hale, both 82, met on Cliff's 18th birthday on Christmas Eve 64 years ago.

Cliff of Thruxton Close, Cudworth said: "I met Brenda on the night I had my first taste of alcohol.

"Brenda was in there with her parents and I had to ask them first if I could take her out.

"They agreed, and here we are now.

"While we were planning to get married, I was in the army so Brenda and her mum arranged the wedding, and it turned out to be on the day of the cup final.

"We had our wedding reception in the Dards, and then spent a few days in Scarborough."

Cliff and Brenda went on to have a son and a daughter, and now have seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
