Barnsley manager David Flitcroft says centre-back Rob Edwards still has a ‘massive part to play’ in the Reds’ fight against relegation despite being on loan at Shrewsbury Town.

Edwards, 30, has not played at all for Barnsley this season and spent time on loan at League Two side Fleetwood Town before Christmas. He joined the League One Shrews for a month on transfer deadline day last Thursday and was an unused substitute at Preston on Saturday.

Flitcroft said: “Rob still has a massive part to play for us this season. I can’t get him back from Shrewsbury for 28 days but after that I’ll have a 24-hour recall so he will be a call away.

“He needs to get games in League One to get him up to speed then he’ll come back for our last 11 or 12 games.”
