New Shaw Lane Aquaforce manager Craig Elliott is planning a late shake-up to his promotion chasing squad which is likely to include the exit of former Doncaster Rovers striker Jason Price.

Elliott – who made one appearance for Doncaster Rovers in 2001 – was appointed Ducks manager on Monday after quitting his job at Ossett Town who play two divisions higher in the EvoStick League. He will be joined by coaches Darren Smith and Gary Devenport as well as former Barnsley FC defender Luke Potter, who has has been named fitness coach.

The 35-year-old manager from Pontefract previously gained promotion from Aquaforce's current league with Glasshoughton, where his assistant was Simon Houghton who was sacked by the Shaw Lane club last week after guiding them to third in the Division One table, a point off the two promotion places.

Elliott is now looking to bring in as many as four new players in the next week and several, including experienced Football League player Price, are set to leave. Price, 36, was seen as a major coup when he signed for Aquaforce on Boxing Day and he has scored twice in three matches. But he is likely to be searching for his fourth club of the season soon.

Elliot said: "I had Jason with me at Ossett for pre-season this and he played four games. "He is not in my plans and he will be surplus to requirements. There's not much time to bring in new players but I will try to sign a few."

Elliott says he was attracted to Shaw Lane by the ambition of owner Craig Wood – who wants to guide the Ducks to the EvoStick – and that he had taken Ossett as far as he could. He said: "I had two good years there. We did well in the FA Vase and the FA Cup and got close to the play-offs but the club has limited resources and I wanted a new challenge.

"A lot of people will think I am crazy for going down two leagues but I have been really impressed by Aquaforce. We have 13 games left, nine of them are at home, and I am hoping to hit the ground running and start winning straight away."

Elliott beat 30 other applicants to the job including five who were also interviewed. Director of football Doug O'Connor said: "I think we have picked the right one but time will tell. Craig is very highly-rated and we are lucky to get him. The remit is to get promotion but if we miss out and still see an improvement then we will keep him on for next season."
