REPRESENTATIVES from major employers across Barnsley have signed an alcohol charter to stop employees drinking during work time.
It has been developed by the One Barnsley board, which includes senior representatives from public, voluntary and community sectors, Barnsley Council, the police and other organisations, and has been signed to agree 'a common vision' for Barnsley's future.
Chief Superintendent Andy Brooke, the district commander for Barnsley police, has developed the charter as one element in addressing the issue of alcohol misuse in the borough.
The charter states alcohol misuse is a growing social and health problem which can lead to accidents at work, reduced efficiency, poor decision making and lost productivity.
It has been signed by representatives from the council, police, Barnsley Hospital, Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group, Barnsley College, Stagecoach, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and Berneslai Homes amongst others.
Ch Supt Brooke said: "The alcohol charter represents a commitment from all One Barnsley members to better understand the impact of alcohol on employees, residents and our communities."
