A TEENAGER who suffers from epilepsy has taken part in the Junior Great North Run - less than a year after the condition almost took her life.

Katie Lee, 14, lined up in the 4k junior race - her dad David, who was also competing, said: "Almost one year ago, Katie had a massive seizure which resulted in her stopping breathing.

"We are so fortunate she is still with us. Katie wants to let people know epilepsy isn't the end of the world, she regularly says she will not let epilepsy ruin her life."

The pair are both members of the Kingstone Runners, and Katie, although too young to be a full member of the club, has already started getting involved.

They are both collecting sponsors for the charity Epilepsy Action via their page on the website Justgiving.com/Katie-DavidLee
