A CARING youngster who wanted to raise cash for a baby with a cleft lip has generated more than £600.

Ethan Lyon, 11, broke his arm when he fell out of a tree playing with friends and ended up missing out on his end-of-school residential visit.

Ethan, who goes to Churchfield Primary in Cudworth, wanted to channel his energy elsewhere and ended up having his head shaved to raise cash for little Hugo Owen.

Hugo, whose mum Natasha is friends with Ethan’s mum, Gaynor Lyon, was born with the defect and also underwent heart surgery when he was just three weeks old.

Gaynor, of Ladyroyd Croft, Cudworth, said: “We’re so proud of him - he was absolutely gutted when he broke his arm as he knew he’d miss out on the residential.

“He had lovely hair and he suggested having it shaved so he could raise money. He started researching cleft lips and thought it would be a good way of raising awareness of it as well.

“The money will be shared between Hugo’s family and CLAPA, a national charity.”
