THE Alhambra is being given a facelift with a new glass frontage replacing the red brick entrance on Cheapside.

The upgrade will open up the centre by allowing more natural light into the building and will keep it in line with the ongoing proposed modernisation of the town centre.

It is expected to take up to four months to complete, which will include removing the first floor mezzanine and upgrades to the glazed area.

Centre manager John Tarrant said: "We are all very excited about the latest development at the Alhambra which is the first in a string of proposed changes for the venue over the next three years."

He said building works will not impact on access and people will be able to shop as normal throughout the construction period.
