A Hoyland family is raising awareness of a group for children with inflammatory bowel disease that helped their son.

The Corker family, of Noble Street, lost their son Daniel eight years ago when he died in a road crash on Cloughfields Road, Hoyland, aged 23.

Daniel had suffered from Crohn's Disease and was helped by the Crohn's and Colitis UK group, Smilie's Network. His mum and dad Chris and Christine and sister Rebecca remain staunch supporters of Smilie's and join a group outing on May 31 to Bromsgrove. They also plan to help Smilie's celebrate its 15th anniversary next year.

Smilie's Network is for children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) up to the age of 18 and their families. It helps them meet, have fun, and support each other.

The Corker family says not everyone is aware of Smilie's and recommends that any local families affected by IBD contact the network.
