A DARFIELD family are reeling following a sickening attack on their pet rabbit that has since had to be put down.

Matthew, 26, and Terri Dyson, 29, of Snape Hill Road, have had to console their son Russell, nine, since the incident on Saturday.

Gwen, a two-year-old, was Russell's rabbit and had to be put down by the emergency vet, who revealed its back had been broken in two places.

It's believed that an intruder in the back garden took the rabbit from its cage, broke its back, then threw it over a fence into the front garden.

The RSPCA is now investigating - reports can be made to 0300 1234 999.
