THE WOMBWELL High Street Committee is being dissolved because its members are 'fed up' about the lack of money being spent in the town centre by Barnsley Council.

Committee founders Brothers Andrew, 52, and Dave Cole, 48, who run Cole Brothers Cafe, believe money generated from the sales of the old market and the town hall should have been reinvested into the High Street.

The brothers have written to all shop owners on the High Street explaining their reasons for winding it up.

The committee had been keen to set up a covered market area for traders but the letter claims they have faced a lack of support from councillors.

The letter states: 'For the past ten years we have strived to provide plans for a sustainable High Street market that would provide permanent cover for stall holders and shoppers on non-market days.

'These plans were never adopted due to costs, lack of support and red tape.'

The brothers claim they would have been happy to continue running the committee had they received more support.

Coun Dick Wraith said he is disappointed the committee is being dissolved but denied a lack of support.
