Goalkeeper Adam Davies is Barnsley's first new signing of the summer and coach Mark Crossley believes he is good enough to be the Reds' number one in the future.
The 21-year-old – who has never played a professional game – came through the youth ranks at Everton before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2012. He left Hillsborough at the end of the season that has just finished and has now signed with the Reds, on a two-year deal.
Davies will join long-serving stopper Luke Steele, who the Reds are expecting offers for, while 20-year-old third choice Christian Dibble is set to sign a new contract.
"I worked with Adam at Wednesday and he is very good goalkeeper," Crossley told the Chronicle.
"I am confident he will have a big impact at Barnsley. "He was on the bench for Wednesday quite a lot last season but then he got injured and lost his place. The manager wouldn't let him go out on loan so he didn't play any first team games. But anyone who has seen him play will know how good he is. I definitely see him as a long-term option for the number one goalkeeper at this club."
