BARNSLEY'S lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender forum will not be responsible for putting on a Gay Pride event this year.

Co-chairman of the forum, Kevan Riggett, said he has made contact with all the LGBT pubs and is arranging a meeting to discuss putting together a new pride committee to take the event forward and ensure it continues to run.

He said to date Heart of Barnsley and Camp Rock have said they are happy to meet with him and Kevan is awaiting a response from Treadles Bar.

He said: "From a forum's perspective we need to focus on supporting our 800 members and don't have time to set up and run another pride.

"The time and energy to run a pride is quite exhausting and takes time away from our primary missions.

"However, saying that we will give the pride committee the full support and backing from the forum."
