MORE than £60,000 will be spent improving a play area in Kendray to ensure it is not closed.
The Leslie Road play area will benefit from £62,910 which was set aside by a housing developer to improve open spaces in the area.
Barnsley Council say the play area is considered to be of a particularly poor state of repair and is likely to become a significant health and safety concern should repairs not be undertaken.
The package of works include replacing the existing safety surfacing with turf and grass matting; replacing, repairing and repainting existing play equipment to extend the overall life span of the site; replacing gates, seats, signage and litter bin.
