Outdoor jackets worth more than £90,000 were stolen from a trailer at a Dodworth industrial estate.

A gang of thieves broke through security fencing at haulage firm A Davis Transport Ltd, on Fallbank Industrial Estate, and took more than 5,500 TOG24 coats from a trailer.

The culprits carried the jackets, which were in about 280 boxes and destined for a sports outlet in Heckmondwike, to a getaway vehicle police say was parked in a nearby field.

It happened sometime between noon on Saturday, December 7 and 4am on Monday, December 9.

DC Steve Mason said: "The offenders will have taken a long time to load up the vast quantity of jackets, which were men's, women's and children's in different styles and sizes.

"We believe the thieves are part of an organised criminal group and this was a targeted attack.

"They are likely to have distributed the stolen items over the Christmas period, passed them to handlers or sold them to members of the public in South and West Yorkshire."

The men's and women's jackets were Yalta style. The men's were a combination of black and petrol marl, while the women's were petrol and aqua marl coloured.

The children's garments were Convert style and in colours called raspberry, indica, black and new blue.

Police say a crucial detail is the jackets contained unique order numbers printed on the label that were specific to that consignment.

The number for the adult jackets is 132090 and the children's is 132093.

DC Mason added: "We're appealing for any information regarding the possible sale of these jackets or the location of the stolen items.

"We also want to alert people in case they are offered any of these garments."

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the sale of these jackets or anyone who may have inadvertently bought one, to get in touch.
