LUCY the guide dog has made a big impression on the church community in Darton and Staincross.

The labrador attends Darton All Saints’ Church at least twice a week with Sandra Kingshott, 73, who lost her sight about 20 years ago.

And in their honour, Darton church, Staincross Church and Darton Ladies’ Group have come together to organise a charity fund-raising event in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Mollie Hall, church warden at Darton, said: “Sandra has always been such a huge supporter of everything we do at church, and in the community generally, that we all wanted to do something to help.”

Sandra said Lucy gives her enough independence to be able to walk from home to church on her own.

“I’m so pleased they’re doing this to support guide dogs. I don’t know what I would do without my guide dog,” she said.

The fund-raising coffee morning will be held at the Parish Hall, Darton, on Saturday January 27 from 10am until noon.
