A gym instructor who lost two-and-half-stones in 12 weeks is through to the final of a national weight loss competition.

Melanie Schofield will be heading down to London on April 27 after reaching the final six women of the USN (Ultimate Sports Nutrition) 12 Week Challenge.

Melanie, who has worked at Superbodies gym for the last five years, will take part in a photo shoot and video in the capital before the winner, who will get £6,000, is announced.

She had to use USN supplements such as protein drinks and fat burning pills along with a healthy diet and exercise to shed the weight.

Melanie, 40, regularly sent photos and body measurements to USN UK to show her progress.

She has done so well she has featured in Holland and Barrett's fitness magazine and on their website.

She has also been asked by USN to work on their stand at a top body building exhibition in Birmingham in May.

Melanie, who weighed just under 13 stone before she started the diet, wanted to get back in shape and her manager at the gym suggested she gave the competition a go.

"Normally when I put a bit of weight on I get it off," Melanie, of Park Avenue, Royston, said.

"My weight kept getting higher and higher and I was taking people around the gym and I was getting quite porky myself. It didn't look good."

Melanie said if she wins the competition it will give her a good chance to pursue her ambitions in body building.
